Apart of becoming a great designer it is essential to read books biased on design. Desire: The Shape of Things to Come, by the editors of Gestaltan is a fabulous book for the aspiring designer. The introduction by Andrej Kupetz sets the tone explaining the context of 21st Century design as a natural successor to the functionalism of Louis Sullivan's edicts and the visual expression of the Memphis movement. The remainder of the book provides some new and useful categories for recent design movements.
